As wise people abandon densely populated cities. Headed for greener
fields or bluer seas, and they will now be able to telecommute globally. The
once coveted skyscraper penthouse suites will be converted to farms. Not the
old impression of farms but highly scientific and efficient laboratories. These
buildings would have to be renovated and refitted to house its own water,
electricity and air supplies. Expanding the food supply chain, via vertical
farming, of animal and plant life with onsite processing of certified healthy
foods. fit primarily for human consumption. The demand for healthy fresh foods
will naturally outstrip supply as populations increase globally. And as a
result, food stocks will grow in financial value over the old real estate
funds.
As economic opportunities, jobs, now allow many persons, who would
have been able to afford tower apartments, to now work from mobile locations
and be mostly away from crowds. Working as a professional and seeing clients
via video conferencing, etc., such persons can earn, while stationed in their
mobile residence, have fewer contact hours touching others on the street, in a
taxi, bus or train, into a stationary building. This fixed foundation structure
with a greenhouse already on its roof, its multiple floors and a relatively
small footprint opens up large surface areas, many of which are already fitted
for utilities, to food production.
The old inefficient large land mass farms, needing massive equipment
and a large workforce, exposed to nature’s elements and high levels of crime,
are destined to have competition from better yielding vertical farming labs.
Skyscrapers, which were built to bring people together in a secure environment,
would now be available to be repurposed and renovated to house livestock and
plants, bread for human nutrition. Renovated to capture, treat and recycle
water for hydroponics, to generate electricity from solar, wind and other
renewable sources, and of course, to purify and control air temperatures. A
strictly controlled and monitored environment that offers the best year-round
yields.
Farming livestock and crops that were traditionally confined to the
planet’s natural temperate zones. Now can be grown efficiently and
competitively anywhere in doors. And hence much closer to the final consumer.
So, such vertical farming labs can deliver fresh healthy meal cuts and salads
to hotels and restaurants, as it is ordered. Preparation begins from the
animals’ genetic line and from seeds nurturing, with no transportation stresses
on the food. The ready to eat meals are certified at each stage of its growth
and processing, noting that animal feed is made within the said premises.
Global Populations are expected to grow at 1.1% annually, according to
the World Bank. These human beings must be fed. Hence, demand for food will
remain positive in any long-term projections. The supply of such nourishment
cannot and should not be allowed to be threatened by climate change. Solutions
to produce year-round yields of high quality, large quantity, food supply is
vertical farming. Investments today in food farming labs, will best be made via
the purchase of these soon to be abandoned towers, due to the growth in
mobility, the loss of value in fixed foundations structures and because of high
maintenance cost.
