Information Portal

A business success is driven more by its lawyers and auditors, who prevent expensive penalties from lawsuits and from breaches in regulatory compliance, than by its core products. Hence, the focus of any type of business must be to bring together a development vision informed by economic intelligence and peoples (customers, suppliers, venders, employees, lenders and investors) needs and wants. For this reason, the today-to-today internal operations of the business must be closely monitored and the external environment will sway all decisions.

Today’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) must have at a glance all the prudent internal and external data, sorted and compressed into information on which to base an intelligent decision. Computer Systems are commonly used throughout business to manage all internal information with various levels of security. The technology, to present and illustrate this single electronic window or portal to capture both internal and external news is widely available, the actual data, in most cases, is not.

The role of the CEO is to pick the right, not the best, people to execute the mission given to him/her by the Board of Directors. This mission is much more than the mission statement on a wall plaque; it is documented as a Business Plan with all relevant details, not to be confused with a business prospectus which is used to raise debt or equity funding. This Business Plan is a dynamic document and is normal divided into separate portions, which helps to control access to assigned personnel only. The complete document is only for the CEO to present at the board level. Each CEO needs a personally designed portal that tracks and reflects any and all changes to the business plan. Following is one of many formats this document, if printed, would take…

On a small portion of a computer screen there can be buttons to open full screen reports on internal Sales by product, by region and every by personnel, Purchases of raw materials and/or finish goods sorted as best suited. Other internal buttons, leading to more detail reports, can be labeled Bank, Cashier, Receivables, Payables, Production, Payroll, Expenses and Financials. Red flags and alarm bells can be used to alert the CEO to any changes or unauthorized activities.

In the top left corner, the place where most people’s eyes go to first, is a Alert System which can be set up to track reported Crime, Storms, Earthquakes and Fires and indication by color the severity of the threat. More external information can be scrutinized via news reports, shipping tracking systems, currency trading, stock and commodities exchanges and sector alerts. And specialized search tools can be used to quickly find people’s contact data, word dictionary and translations while monitoring your schedule.

Such an information portal prepares the CEO to answer any query and make intelligence-based decisions.
