Success may be easier to achieve than to define. For many people it is about acquiring things that would send a message of success to others, some people think it is about communicating accomplishments which in their mind is more important than the action itself, and for another group of people it is about helping others to achieve success. This is more complicated than one may think when one considers the individual psychosis and the background environment.All of us need to be comfortable throughout life, so no one sees basic living conditions as success, it is a legal right. What one does to enhance one’s life style is seen as materialistic success. Putting oneself in the best possible position to earn, acquire, invest and protect wealth is the correct road to such fortunes, but is it success. If it were, would one continue to pursue more in the same manner or would one simply engage in activities that seek to protect and prolong this successful life style. Yes, many people can never have enough material success and in fact, sees any other person getting ahead as a challenger to their hard earned stuff. They must have the latest with all the bells and whistles.
Part of a basic lifestyle is a functional education, having the training and skills to earn a living. Many societies now encourages its people to specialize and engage in life-long learning, producing highly educated individuals with worldwide marketable expertise and in some cases more thinkers than doers. Success to such people is defined by their résumé which is routinely updated and constantly referenced. Failure is inferred by not being mentioned in the industry’s top journal or not being selected to speak at international conferences. Yes, academic success is important and along with materialistic success, the selfish individual can accomplish no more.
Basic living condition guarantees human interaction as groups are formed to deal with suffering, improve situations and lends individual support as fortunes changes. Success is defined by many social and community groups in terms of how much money their fund-raising activities earned, instead of how many lives were positively affected by their sponsorship programs. Mostly, this is because too many selfish individual infiltrate the group hence, focus is placed on themselves, the givers rather than the beneficiaries. Needy communities are labeled and shunned as crime-hot-spots and if left on its own will rightfully earn that label. Cleaning the streets and waterways, rotating police officers, set up mobile public kitchens, offering soft housing repair loans, building and maintaining police stations, schools and sporting grounds and employing teachers, coaches, building and maintenance crews from the area until the negative label is no more and the next generation can look forward to at the very least basic living conditions.
