Expanding Tourism

Traditional tourism, targeting vacation seekers with sightseeing, sun, sea and sand products along with local foods, is no longer adequate as a national Economic Driver. Event tourism has and must be expanded and incorporated into the national Strategic Plan. Live performances, Sporting tournaments, Outdoor activities, Medical recuperation, Technology studies, are some of the new types of tourism models mixed into the traditional family vacation, to which the world is invited.

Live performances; music concerts, cultural entertainers in song and dance, comedy and drama, film festivals, requiring well designed and maintained multi-purpose venues, detailed plans surrounding each performance, which include security, accommodations and transport to and from the shows. The key in expanding this particular sub-sector is to control cost, noting that in this new environment of live shows, the artists attraction must be carefully measured; in relation to the last venues played, the numbers in attendance and the size of the geographic area, to plan the promotional budget. Such plans, based on historical data, current news, promoted via social and traditional media, must target realistic ticket sales and be priced to generate profits.

Sporting tournaments; team and individual sports, on or in water, in the air or on land, with vast audiences in stadiums or viewing on surrounding big screens, requiring specially designed and maintained multi-purpose facilities, international broadcast licensing agreements, with all supporting crowd management plans. This sub-sector, the fastest growing in the world, redefines tourists from one town to another as opposed to across economic borders, and measures success by ticket sales and attendance. Noting that, in most cases the visiting teams or athletes can be the only tourists. Carefully projected and implemented plans are drawn up within tournament rules and guidelines to ensure profits and, in many cases, profit sharing.

Outdoor activities; nature walks and sight-seeking, hiking, camping, climbing, biking, surfing, diving, family reunions, etc., requiring much less costly but environmentally designed and maintained designated areas, specially staffed with expertly trained and experienced emergency workers, and also requiring supporting security and accommodations. This sub-sector has been quietly growing, as many with disposable income and a love for nature, seeking undeveloped grounds, untouched and hidden areas, to explore and relax in, into manageable adventures. With very little investment, no hotel chains or rented stadiums, an outdoor guide or instructor can earn a very good living, mostly by targeting guest from hotels and at stadiums, with a small brochure.

Medical recuperation; minor surgery, outpatient care, psychiatry sessions, addiction treatment, health and wellness programs, physical therapy and spa, requiring specially trained and certified medical staff, with visiting doctors on-call and with hospital admission privileges, and the said supporting security and accommodations. It is in this fairly new sub-sector, where investment is already in place and expansions are already plan and advanced, to serve the local population, hospitals and treatment centres, which only require just an addition to word of mouth promotions thought the nation's global network of foreign missions inviting patients to recuperate in comfort and specialists to schedule working vacations.

Technology studies; post graduate work, science laboratory research, developing real world applications, producing healthier foods, recycling waste and water, renewable energy, improving medical equipment, requiring professors, researchers, inventors, innovators, working in concert to modernize normal tasks, while reducing related risks, in a specially designed and maintained integrated technological multi-purpose science complex, surrounded with the necessary security and accommodations. This sub-sector offers much more than visitors, an academic environment to stimulate ideas, which can lead to patents and industries. While, targeting a few long term visiting professors, who in turn invite other medium term guest PhD students.
